The University of North Alabama College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering is hosting special guest, Mr. James Spann, at our Sunseri Speaker Series on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1 pm in Norton Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

The Sunseri Speaker Series is made possible through a generous donation from UNA alumnus David Sunseri, who sponsored the series at UNA to honor his late sister, Jennifer Leigh Sunseri. The annual series integrates arts and creativity with the sciences to drive innovation. 

While Mr. Spann is a famous meteorologist and media personality, as a creative, he is known for his writing, which he ties to his vast knowledge of meteorology in his children’s book and autobiography. He is also a host for the prolific Weather Brains podcast, which has over 1000 episodes. Most recently, he launched the Alabama Weather Network, a 24/7 weather resource that focuses on the entire state of Alabama.

This annual Sunseri Speaker Series event is included as part of our UNA Family Weekend on Saturday, October 11, from 1-2 p.m., with a short reception/meet-and-greet afterward in the Norton Auditorium lobby. A signature event for UNA Family Engagement, Family Weekend aims to foster community and connection between the University and families of all Lion students. In addition to time with their students, families can join faculty and staff in activities across campus, enjoy brunch, a family tailgate, and cheer on the Lions against Central Arkansas in one of the final UNA football games at Braly Stadium.
